Overview of Programme:
Each person needs to be managed in an individual way – you should be flexing your style to suit the occasion and skills level of your member of staff. Coaching is one of the many skills you need as an effective manager – as it helps you achieve maximum performance. Allowing under performance to continue just sets up trouble for the future. Equally where someone wants to achieve and has the capability – you should be helping them work towards that success and career progression.
The temptation to tell staff what to do, to be directive, or even coercive just doesn’t pay off. We will explore how to avoid the inadvertent pressure some ‘bosses’ can place on people – and so build up resentment and potentially explosive situations.
The tips and techniques that help, the leadership styles (for example Situational Leadership by Paul Hersey) are explored and tested. (In a longer session we can undertake role plays).
Making this understandable is important – and Patricia manages to draw in her audience, using personality traits to illustrate the points – along with how to make a cup of coffee – and get an excellent brew, time after time, after time! Quality starts at the beginning – and managing people is no different – It’s just Patricia so enjoys reflecting on the mad and crazy things people do! What a lesson!
How you will benefit:
you will:
- have a clearer understanding of coaching, mentoring and counselling
- be better able to diagnose a situation and what level of support should be provided
- see improvements in individual and team performance
- have more freedom to get on with those tasks only you can deal with
- develop the skills of your staff as high performers!
